Celebrating Our History.

Black History Month (also African Heritage Month) takes place in February. It is significant to Black-Canadian history in many ways. This month honors the legacy of Canadians, past and present. The month is also important for providing communities with insight into the experiences of black Canadians.

We celebrate Black History Month with numerous events the entire month. British Columbians are invited to reflect on, and celebrate the progress, richness, and diversity of black Canadians.

These events typically include an opening reception in City Hall, a black History Month dinner, multiple Issamba shows, workshops and our annual Black History Month Closing Gala. We encourage you to look at our events calendar for more information, and subscribe to our newsletter to be informed of ticket sales.

Our gratitude and respect to the W̱SÁNEĆ, Lekwungen, Songhees & Esquimalt people as we are mindful that this event will be taking place on unceeded territories of these peoples.
